What Are The Different Variations Of The Boho Style?

Over the years, the bohemian style has evolved, creating numerous variations. In today’s article, we will be looking at just a few of these, including my all time favourite… Western Boho!

Boho Hippie

The more well known and traditional bohemian style is Boho Hippie. As you may have already guessed, this style is linked to the 1960’s/70’s cultural movement, which revolved around the concept of peace and love. Add bohemian style to the mix and you have a cultural mix of peace and love, with a rebellious spirit and the freedom to create your own personal style.

Garments included in this love fest are;

  • Loose tops and dresses
  • Flared and loose flowing trousers
  • Ponchos and kimonos
  • Denim (if its embroidered, even better)
  • Layers of jewellery and accessories.
  • Headbands and hair ties.

Prints include paisley designs and tie-dye to name a few. When choosing garments always opt for natural materials such as linen. Fringe detail also features heavily in this style

Boho Gypsy

The Boho Gypsy style is linked from the traditions and lifestyles of Romani people. If you’re struggling to visualise this style then think Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of The Caribbean or Esmeralda from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Garments in this style include;

  • Oversized blouses and shirts
  • Puff sleeved shirts
  • Crop Tops
  • Belts (coin belts feature a lot)
  • Layers of jewellery including jewelled headbands
  • Long flowing maxi skirts
  • Fringe scarfs, head bands and hair ties.
  • Waistcoats

Boho Rock

The Bohemian Rock look fuses the grungy, hard glamour of rock and roll with the free-spirited energy of bohemian. Think leather items and studded accessories mixed with flowing earthy toned dresses and wide-brim hats.

Garments to include in this look are;

  • Wide-brim hats
  • Layered jewellery (the more leather and studs the better!)
  • Jeans
  • Vintage T-shirts
  • Fringe details
  • Leather, Leather and more leather

Western Boho

And FINALLY we have made it to Western Boho! This is one of my favourite collabs. Think rustic allure fused with a free spirited and creative vibe and that’s Western Boho. Fringe features a lot in this style as does suede and denim. Layering jewellery and accessories is a must in any boho style but as the Western Culture favours turquoise jewellery, feel free to splash out with this colour. Cowboy boots and cowboy hats also complete any outfit as does leather bags (don’t forget the fringe).

Other garments to include are;

  • Flared trousers or jeans
  • Belts (belts with big buckles add a touch of western too)
  • Vintage t-shirts
  • Floaty flowing dresses
  • Cowboy Boots
  • Cowboy and Wide-brim hats
  • Waistcoats

Western Boho

These are only a few of the bohemian styles that have evolved over the years. There are many, many more. If you have a favourite then I would love to about it!
